The Corpus Christi Procession and the Eucharistic Revival

The United States Catholic Bishops have initiated a Eucharistic Revival, a three-year period whose purpose is to deepen the love and understanding of Catholics for the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. The Erie Diocese is launching the Revival by holding four Eucharistic processions on the Feast of Corpus Christi, The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.  People from Warren are encouraged to join the procession at St. Bernard Church in Bradford.

Eucharistic processions on the Feast of Corpus Christi are an age-old tradition in the Church and began in Liege, Belgium in 1247. The Monstrance containing the Sacred Host is processed through streets and neighborhoods as a public witness to our belief in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Pope Francis says the procession “reminds us that we are called to go out and bring Jesus to others.”

Father Matt Kujawinski, Director of the Office for Divine Worship for the Diocese of Erie speaks of the Eucharistic Revival: “It is an invitation to every institution, every family, parish and school to inflame again that relationship with the Lord and the Eucharist.
